For our second day in Madrid, we met Luis at this Metro stop on the edge of town, and he drove us out to the castle where he and Leeza were married. It is in a cute village in the Spanish Countryside.
Luis's parents had arranged access for us. We met them at their apartment and they came along.
We drove up and over this mountain that had a ski resort at the top of it, and then back down into the valley where the town was. Luiz's father imagines himself a racecar driver, and it was a suspenceful mountain drive.
We met the priest of the church, and he showed us the 13th century statues that they had just discovered behind the altar in the church of the village. They were found when doing some maintenance cleaning, and everyone was very excited about it.
We grabbed a quick bite to eat and an espresso at the Inn where Luis and Leeza had their reception. I had a piece of Tortilla, which in Spain is completely different than what we know as Tortilla. In Spain, it is more like a Potatoe Quiche. Onions and Potatoes are sauted till tender, then eggs are added. It was delicious. I'll have to try making some when I get back to London.
We then drove up to Castillo Turegano, where they had been married. It is a neat old rustic castle. It was built to defend grain stores that farmers had paid to the church as part of their tithe. The church would then sell the grain.
The castle is no longer in use, but is shown to people as part of a tour, or for private functions. We got crawl all around it.
Inside, we saw visited where Luis and Leeza were married. It was fun to see how excited they were to revisit it.
It is a very unique place to visit, and we enjoyed seeing it a lot.
