In Persuit of the Loch Ness

One of the great "mecca's" of any Monster Geek is Loch Ness, Scotland.  Stories of its mythical creature have been around for decades.  As part of our trip to Scotland, we decided to take part in a Monster Hunt Expedition to Loch Ness.

Tanked up with a full Scottish breakfast of eggs, black pudding, haggis, and beans, we were fully gassed up and ready for the drive.

Loch Ness is only about 1/2 hour drive from Inverness.  It was raining (yes, it rains a lot in Scotland), and the lake was shrouded in cloudy mystery.

No, we didn't get to take a submarine ride, but there is one at the Loch Ness Center, where we took examined the facts surrounding the monster.

We saw many items that were used to perpetuate hoax monsters such as this casting of a foot used to make fake footprints.

We also saw a diving bouy that was used in an attempt to find the monster.

They have a model of the race boat involved in the infamous monster wake collision of Loch Ness Monster lore.

Eventually, we were left with the knowledge that such a monster most likely doesn't exist in Loch Ness, but they do have some fun exhibits showing what the fictional beast might look like.
While in Loch Ness, we visited the ruins of an old castle, and tried out some of the local "Loch Ness" Beers aged in Whiskey barrels.

After a few of these, I can see why some people may have seen monsters.
We also had an appetizer of more Haggis.  This time is was fresh and served with a Whiskey cream sauce.  Very delicious.

Unfortuately, all of the Haggis and beans I ate led to some digestive issues, and I was banned from eating any more of them for the remainder of the driving trip.
