Lisbon - St. Georges Castle

For our first full day in Lisbon, we got up early, had a bunch of the wonderful strawberries we'd bought, and took the old-fashioned yellow tram up the hill to St. George's Castle.
As it passes right next to our apartment, and I'd been hearing it since the early morning hours, it was easy enough to find.

It rattles and sparks its way across town and then up the rather steep incline to an older section of town to Miradouros Portas del Sol.  It is a beautiful overlook showing off one of Lisbon's best views.  The sky was magnificent, and the view terrific.

From there, we walked further up the hill to the top to St. Georges Castle.  It is a 14th Century Castle, built more to protect Portugal than to provide comfort.
From the top of the hill, one can see all of Portugal and its surroundings.  It was fun to find where we were staying as well as where we had walked the day before.  The views alone are worth the price of admission.

We walked around amongst the restored walls of the old fort, and enjoyed seeing yet another castle in our journeys.  And our first castle in Portugal.

The man himself - St George.
